I teach photography at a local Christian high school and on the first day of class, I share a little about my background and how I got started taking pictures. I then share about how it’s one of the ways I connect to God and I say something along the lines of, “I don’t know what God created in you to do, but when you do that thing, you will never be more alive!”
A couple years ago our school hosted Dr. Kathy Koch (https://celebratekids.com) for a staff development training. She mentioned that instead of asking students what they wanted to do when they grew up, she’d ask the following questions:
What problems do you want to solve?
What people groups do you want to serve?
What breaks your heart?
What brings you joy?
How do you want to live your life?
Aren’t these great questions? I’ve used them quite a few times since then to challenge both high school and college kids alike to ask themselves these five things. In a world where we’re constantly looking around to others to compare ourselves to find our value or worth, I don’t think there’s a better fix than to seek God’s direction as you ask yourself these questions and let Him reveal you to you!
Just like in this image of the bee doing the important job which it was created for, we have profound value in this world. If God created us and our life and breath are in His hands (and He's really, really, really good), spend time in worship and thanksgiving as you pray about what all you were created to do!
See you tomorrow!
